Who do I have to flirt with to get the Dr.’s network key?
I’ve been stuck at Mercy Southwest hospital ALL day today. My Dad is having surgery. Nothing life threatening, in fact they are taking care of his problem on an outpatient basis. He was supposed to check in at 12:30pm and be done with surgery by 3pm. When we got here at 12:30pm they told him they were running an hour and a half behind schedule, but they went ahead and hooked him up to the IV since he hadn’t had anything to eat or drink since last evening. At 3pm they came in and told us it would be another hour and a half before they took him back to surgery.
I brought my
new laptop with me to the hospital today. I didn’t know if I’d be able to get on the Internet, but at least I’d be able to get some writing done while waiting. When I fired up the laptop it informed me that there was a wireless network in the area called DRS-MSW-OR; however, this was a secure network and it required a network key to access it.
Well, I’d least I’d be able to do a little writing in Microsoft Word. I thought to myself.
At 3pm after the nurse had told my Dad that it would be at least another hour and a half before they took him back for surgery my Dad had already read every out-dated magazine in the room.
“Do you want to play solitaire on my laptop?” I asked my Dad.
“No. But if I had that Dr.’s network key I’d check
Rush Limbaugh's ,
Sean Hannity's and
Kim Komando's websites.” My Dad replied smiling.
By 4:30pm they still hadn’t taken my Dad back to surgery yet, he was out of magazines and I was wondering who I had to flirt with to get the Dr.’s network key for my Dad so he could get online…
They finally took him back to surgery close to 5pm and at around 6pm the Doctor came out to tell us everything went fine and my Dad would be ok. He was in recovery, and we had to wait another hour and a half or so before he would be ready to go home. I think
hour and a half is the only time frame hospitals know.
I’ve been sitting here in the outpatient surgery waiting room, freezing my buns off, writing on my laptop while re-runs of M*A*S*H play on the TV, waiting to take my Dad home. I had a sandwich at 11am this morning, and a snicker’s bar since. I’m starving! It’s 7pm now, I just checked with the nurse and she said he was doing well but it would be another 20 minutes or so before they got him up out of bed to see how he does on his feet, and then a little while after that before he could go home. The low battery warning just popped up on my laptop. It’s a good thing I upgraded to the 8-cell battery when I bought the laptop or my entertainment and mind stimulus would have ended hours ago. I either have to find an electrical outlet or I’ll be stuck watching
Walker Texas Ranger with Chuck Norris on TV. It’s 7:20pm…
