Local Sports Debate
“When are you going to come to a game?” Nate, a
Bakersfield Blitz player I work out with at
physical therapy asked.
“I don’t know.”
“You go to the
Condors games!”
“I like hockey. It’s fun to watch.”
“So is Football!”
“Not like hockey.” I said.
“What makes hockey more fun to watch?”
“It’s fast, difficult, rough and it keeps you on the edge of your seat.”
“Arena football is fast and rough!”
“She only likes the Condors!” ‘M’ explained wrapping Nate’s shoulder in heat pads.
“How many Condors players do you know?” Nate asked.
“None.”
“You know me and I’ve been trying to get you to go to a Blitz game for two years.”
“I don’t have to know the players to like the Condors.”
“You should go just to watch me play.”
“It’s football!” I walked away to do more exercises.
A little bit later Nate motioned for me to come over to the table he was laying on.
“He’s a Condor!” Nate mouthed pointing at the guy at the next table ‘M’ was working with.
Wow! A real live Condor two feet away from me! I had goose bumps!
“Which Condor is he?” Nate asked.
“I don’t know. He doesn’t have his uniform on.”
The Condors player was young, probably early twenty’s and looked like
Ryan Gosling hiding under a baseball cap.
“You don’t know who he is? What kind of Condors fan are you?”
“I don’t hang out with the players.”
“Ask him for his autograph.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“That would be weird.”
“But you love the Condors!”
“I don’t have to be a groupie to love the Condors.”
Nate just shook his head at me.
