Twenty-five Percent Less Wise
Have you ever wondered why your wisdom teeth are called wisdom teeth? Do you get wiser as they grow in? And if that’s so, why are dentists so quick to want to pull your wisdom teeth out?
Its funny how you go in for a routine cleaning and come out with an appointment for a wisdom tooth extraction because you suddenly have a hole in your tooth. Where did the hole come from? It wasn’t there six months ago when I had my previous cleaning. It’s quite the mystery. Personally I think it’s a dental conspiracy. I imagine the Dentist looking at my x-rays and thinking:
Hmm…we’ve already filled every tooth we could fill so we better start extracting. Gotta make money off her some how. I know, let’s pull a wisdom tooth! She doesn’t need those anyway. Why don’t we need our wisdom teeth? If we don’t need them, why do we even have them? It doesn’t seem very wise. I’m sure God knew what he was doing when he gave us wisdom teeth for dentists to pull out.
When the dentist told me I had a hole in my wisdom tooth and it needed to be pulled he said he could pull all four of them if I wanted.
NO THANKS! I’ll keep as much wisdom as I can.
So, yesterday I had one of my wisdom teeth pulled. Let me just get this out of my system… OUCH! AY..EEE…*@^%$#@&!… OUCH! Ok. I’m better now.
This was the first time I’ve ever had an extraction. The actual procedure wasn’t any worse than a filling, but afterwards… oh boy! Armed with Vicodin and gauze I was sent home to a liquid diet, no spitting, no drinking out of straws and pain. After hours of starvation and drowsiness I ended up worshipping the porcelain throne. So much for no spitting!
Today has been much better. I never knew soft food could taste so good! I hope the other three wisdom teeth don’t follow in the same fashion. I’m not into the extraction thing! I have the Grand Canyon in the back of my mouth or at least that’s how the hole feels to my tongue. My mouth feels lopsided and I’m twenty-five percent less wise. I wonder how this lopsided less wise thing will affect my life. Will my stars be out of alignment too?
